Head Start and WIC provide unique yet complimentary services to what is often an overlapping group of families in their community. A mother may first connect to our programs by seeking WIC services during her first pregnancy and then go on to participate in Early or Preschool Based Head Start.
In this session Head Start staff will work with their WIC counterparts to identify critical moments from pregnancy to kindergarten entry and initiate plans to create a more seamless, family-centered approach to service delivery.
Possible questions to explore include: how could WIC add to its prenatal services to better complement Early Head Start? How could Early Head Start better support WIC’s interest in improving the health of postpartum women? How could WIC programs better fill the gap when children are on break from school-year based Head Start? How could both programs come together to develop care plans for the most at risk families?
